9: Casting
Casting
The only two people that are going to star in my music video are myself and my partner. I will star the main character, being the female like Adele, in the deteriorating relationship. My partner will be playing the boyfriend in the music video.

7: Role Allocation: Individual
Role Allocation
Role allocation refers to the tasks a person has during a film production. As I decided to complete the project on my own, I cannot give out certain tasks to a group, whoever I become more of an Auteur. An Auteur refers to the 'author of a film'. This means the director is seen a huge influence in the creative force of the motion picture. The theory derives from France in the 1950's.
As I have worked on my own, all my ideas and concepts have came from myself. I have adopted the roles of being in the music video as the main artist, audio and visual representative and the editor to both production and ancillary texts. I also had to do most of the camera work myself and also did all the research on my own. I also decided to work on my own as many successful productions have came out of Auteur's.
The only other two roles I had within my production were my supporting actor in the music video itself and my audience to receive feedback off, and to improve from there.
With working alone, there are many pro's and con's;
Pro's

With working alone, there are many pro's and con's;
Pro's
- With not having to manage a group of young adults, which was ideal for my music video and skill level, I was able to be flexible around my life only. This meant for more efficient use of time and a reduce of risk when absences may occur.
- All the work I have done is my own work. This not only gives me a sense of pride, however means that all the workload was fair as I completed all the work myself. Instead of distributing tasks which may be more work than others, this allowed for no unfair distribution.
- When working in a group, conflict can arise quickly when pitching ideas. When working alone, there was no one to dislike my ideas, or abandon my input so my work was my own ideas.
- Less organisation was needed in the aspect of gathering everyone to film, or asking members of the group when their tasks would be complete and etc. This means I saved time to film and complete tasks rather than liaise with a group which would take up a lot of time.
Con's
- As I worked on my own, I had no one I could discuss my ideas with and no one to reflect on different views with what I wanted to accomplish as a team. This meant I only had the ideas I could accumulate and couldn't expand further than my own imagination.
- When creating a production, the work load is quite high. By not distributing tasks and projects, the workload created more pressure on myself to get the task completed. This may hold me back from my full potential as I would have to limit my time on each task.
- The skills I have myself are the only skills I can use. Whereas in a group, some members may have higher skills in tasks than me, and I might excel in something else, bringing a higher standard of working and contribution to the group. However, I can only complete the tasks to a certain standard to what my skill level allows.
- By working alone, there is a lot of work that requires pristine organisation. By not being organised, the result may be overdue coursework, lack of professionalism and lack of creativity due to not being organised.
- Multitasking would be the only choice, as I have no one else to distribute tasks onto. This means I will have to focus on several tasks at hand instead of focusing completely on the one task that has been given to me. This means my full attention won't be devoted to a task at any one time.
- If I see flaws within my project, plan or research, I will have less of a time scale to change my mind as I will be on a tight time schedule due to having no one else to rely on in my group to help with changes. This could mean I will not have time to make amends when I come across these issues.

6: Storyboards
Storyboard
My storyboard will help me plan the shots I need to use in my music video. I finally decided to base my music video on 'Hello' by Adele. My music video will base the artist, and she will be included in the plot, being the girlfriend in this love story. The plot will follow the tensions and break up of a besotted couple.
Number one
In this shot, I will be shown in a long shot, showing bedroom and the artist head to toe. The mise-en-scene here will be the bedroom, as this represents intimacy in a relationship. I want the prop of hand written love letters to be in the shot, so the audience can see I am dwelling over the love letters, which are symbols of romantic love. I would like this shot to be seen in the introduction. The lighting used here will be mid-key lighting to give the impression of a neutral feeling. A simple cut transition will be used after and before this clip.
Number Two
This will be the structure of my performance pieces, singing in the woods just like in the original music video. This will feature a lot of medium long shots, close up shots and pans, again resembling the original music video. A sepia filter will also be applied to this, to also use stylistic elements from the original music video. I will not use diegetic sound but add non-diegetic sound of the artist singing over the top of the clip. This will need to be synced and edited efficiently to make the clip seamless. Natural lighting from filming outside will be used, but I will edit to make this look brighter, to make the artist glow. Normal transitions between shots will be used before and after also.

In this shot, the partner walks away from the girlfriend and leaves down a path which will fade to a blur when the subject is enough distance away. This will be shown in a long shot to an extreme long shot with cutaways of other shots around this one. This adds dramatic effect and emphasises the break up the couple are going through. This will feature near the end of the music video to display the couple are no longer together, in a montage of the couple breaking up. Again with filming outside, natural light will be used. A cross fade would look stylistic here, between the montage cuts.

4: Audience Research
Audience Research
In order for me to have a target audience, I will have to find out first what audiences like. A way to this would be to conduct a questionnaire which I can give to the target audience age, which would be people with their own personal interest and opinions. My target audience age was researched on a website called YouGov Profiles LITE, which I input the artists I researched, which was Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey, Hayley Williams and Lady GaGa. All my evidence shown that fans were mostly aged 18-24 years, male, from a middle to higher class social grade and those that work in artistic jobs, fashion jobs and public service jobs. Working from this I asked 4 people of my target age for these artists 5 questions and recorded their responses below:
1. How many music videos do you watch in a week? None, two or less, two to 5, more than 5?
A: (Aged 18) - "About 2 or less, only when I get told about one or see a new one on Facebook or YouTube".
B: (Aged 19) - "Two to five, I see the ones shared on social media and when my friends tell me to watch one. Also being a media student I have to watch some..."
C: (Aged 20) - "None, I just listen to music, I only watch the video if I listen on YouTube and it is automatically there. Other than that, I don't see the point."
D: (Aged 23) - "Two to five, I think."
2. Where do you see music videos the most?
A: (Aged 18) - "YouTube, I search for music or when someone tells me a music video is funny sad so I watch them on there."
B: (Aged 19) - "YouTube, I sometimes see them on Facebook and stuff, but only when people share them."
C: (Aged 20) - "I YouTube them, only when I need to listen to the music though or when I already know it is a good music video anyway."
D: (Aged 23) - "TV mostly, when I'm bored I put on Heart or MTV, then I only watch the ones I'm interested in".
3. What type of music video is your favourite, performance ones, abstract ones, or narrative ones, and why?
A: (Aged 18) - "I enjoy ones with a story behind it, as it really captures the audience as they can relate to the music video more."
B: (Aged 19) - "I like abstract, as they can be quite interesting. I like narrative too though, maybe both."
C: (Aged 20) - "Narrative, I'm not sure as to why but I know performance would also be good with a narrative as it includes the artists and you can see them actually sing the song."
D: (Aged 23) - "Performance is good because you see the artist and I know what music is playing then because I know the singer."
4. What genre of music makes the best music videos?
A: (Aged 18) - "I think technopop songs, or club music make the best music videos, they're really lively and dance-y, and makes me want to sing along and stuff."
B: (Aged 19) - "I like sad song music videos because they are really hard hitting, and when done right can really shift me sometimes. I think songs that are relatable to me affect me most so maybe, soul or something like that?"
C: (Aged 20) - "Rock music, definitely. They have such meaningful plots behind them, and when you see them on stage it gets you pumped and wants to make you listen to more music!"
D: (Ages 23) - "Pop songs, they're lively and upbeat and make you feel happier. The music videos show this like, by how they show like, dance montages and peppy singers."
5. Finally, can you tell me your favourite music video and artist, off the top of your head?
A: (Aged 18) - "I can't think of one, maybe Bohemian Rhapsody!"
B: (Aged 19) - "I like Lady Gaga's 'Till It Happens to You', it's hard hitting and really emotional, one of the best ones I've seen in ages to be fair."
C: (Aged 20) - "It's between Lily Allen's 'URL Badman' or 'M.A.D' by Hadouken.
D: (Aged 23) - "I love Beyoncé's 'If I were a Boy'"
